‘Color’
your brandname! Recently, the number of companies that use colors in their
brand name has increased. The most preferred color among all turned out to be
Green. The Korean Intellectual Property Office announced that during the
recent five years, the number of trademark applications that included a color
amounted to 7,218, showing a steady increase. Among this, the color of green
consisted 2,538 cases, makring 35.2%, which is followed by blue marking 1,543
(21.4%), white 1,104 (15.3%), red 787 (10.9%), etc. Green seems to be
preferred for the brand name because it is known as environment-friendly,
symbolizing harmony and balance. Blue represents calmness and healthiness while
white being the image of pureness and cleanness, and red passionate image,
analyzed The Korean Intellectual Property Office.
Along with this, the
number of color trademarks has also increased. The number of registration of
colored trademarks is increasing every year from 6138 cases in 2002, 7598 in
2003, 8110 in 2004. This phenomenon is found especially true in food industry
such as snacks, artificial grains, beverage, resulting in the highest rate of
23%.
The reasons for this recent increase of the use of color in
trademarks are interpreted as that the use of color in trademarks would enhance
customer’s familiarity with the product and increase the customer’s purchase
ability as the characteristics of the products would be clearly distinguished in
various colors.
